Why did the Nigerian Senate reject Ibrahim Magu as the full-time chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)?

There have been insinuations that he did not answer some of the questions posed to him satisfactorily. Others have said it is a conspiracy of sorts. However one clear thing is that the following senators during the screening were involved in his rejection.

All the information you see below, was gotten from the official handle of the Nigerian Senate official handle:

1. Bukola Saraki

Senate President Bukola Saraki did not use his remarkable influence to prevent the rejection of Magu

As the Senate President, Bukola Saraki exerts remarkable influence in the Senate, yet even when there was opposition to the rejection of Magu, Saraki said: "We should not rubbish the entire institution because of an individual."

At the end of the session, he said: "This is democracy."

2. Duro Faseyi

Duro Faseyi of Ekiti North was another Senator grilled Magu. Sen. Duro Faseyi asked: "How much has been recovered so far by the EFCC?" To which Magu said: "It is very difficult for me to say."

Magu's inability to answer that question was a major factor in his rejection.

3. Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central also grilled the rejected EFCC boss. He asked him about the Paris Club Fund, which is a major accusation on Magu, saying: ''You need to expantiate on your activities on human rights, what are your findings and activities on the Paris Club fund?''

4. Dino Melaye

Although Magu said he had worked closely with Dino Melaye in the past, the Kogi senator was the first to grill Magu over the DSS report.

Melaye went on to say that notwithstanding the letter from President Muhammadu Buhari urging the Senate to confirm Magu despite his disqualification by the DSS, the secret service has written another letter to the legislature to disqualify the Acting EFCC Chairman.

He then went on to do this:

5. Isah Misau

Senator Isah Misau of Bauchi Central troubled Magu with two heavy questions.

First he asked: ''Dasuki took money illegally and not a single person from the CBN has been investigated or prosecuted so far...''

Then he said: "Why is Central Bank Governor who released money not being investigated by EFCC?"

6. Senator Olujimi

Senator Olujimi of Ekiti state asked Magu: "Can you say that anybody you're prosecuting will take you serious, why prosecute people on the Newspaper before it gets to court?"
