I am not afraid of impeachment threats - Bukola Saraki declares




- The Senate president, Bukola Saraki, says those calling for the immediate resumption of the Senate are making such calls out of selfish and political interests

- He states that the postponement in the resumption of the National Assembly has nothing to do with him but was a matter of constitutional provisions

- Senator Magnus Abe says APC lawmakers will do all within the constitution to bring the Senate president position back to the party

The Senate president, Bukola Saraki, has maintained that he is not afraid of threats of impeachment following his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Saraki made the statement on Sunday, September 16, when he visited Minna, the Niger state capital, Channels TV reports.

The Senate leader said those calling for the immediate resumption of the Senate were making the calls out of selfish and political interests.

He said the postponement in the resumption of the National Assembly had nothing to do with him but was a matter of constitutional provisions.

Saraki also said those parading themselves as political leaders in Kwara have no stability in their political pursuit.

Meanwhile, Senator Magnus Abe of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said senators of the ruling party are opposed to having the opposition holding two most important posts in the Senate.

The lawmaker who is a governorship aspirant on the platform of APC told journalists after submitting his governorship nomination form at the national secretariat of the party, that Senate president Bukola Saraki should have known that defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would affect his position as Senate leader.

Senator Abe however, said APC lawmakers will do all within the constitution to bring the Senate president position back to the party.
