Oluwatosin Omojuyigbe

The police in Lagos have arrested a mechanic, Lukmon Azeez, for allegedly stabbing a neighbour, Ilo Muideen, during a fight on Anjorin Street, in the Akowonjo area of the state.

Our correspondent learnt that the victim was stabbed in the head with a broken bottle while settling a fight between Lukmon and his wife.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Lukmon, who allegedly returned home drunk on September 12, had ordered his two children to kneel before flogging them with a stick.

It was learnt that his wife, Kehinde, challenged him for beating the children.

The suspect was said to have broken a bottle and threatened to stab her and the children.

Our correspondent learnt that 46-year-old Muideen, who had visited his wife who lived in the house, came out to settle the quarrel.

He was reportedly stabbed by the 28-year-old.

Muideen, in his statement to the police, said, “Around 10.10pm on that day, I went to see my wife who was sick. As I was about to eat the food she gave me, I heard a woman shouting in the compound.  I later heard the sound of a broken bottle.

“A woman called Mama Ade came to settle the quarrel, but someone pulled her away. When I could not take it anymore, I came out of the room and tried persuading the man. He used the broken bottle in his hand to stab me in the head.”

Lukmon was arraigned before an Ogba Magistrates’ Court on one count of assault.

The charge read, “That you, Lukmon Azeez, on September 12, 2018, around 10pm on Anjorin Street, Shasha, Akowonjo, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully assault one Ilo Muideen with a broken bottle on his head and caused him bodily harm, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 173 of Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.”

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The magistrate, W.A. Salami, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The case was adjourned till October 3, 2018.
