A Boko Haram suicide bomber on Tuesday attacked a checkpoint in troubled Borno State, killing five members of youth vigilance group.

The suicide attack also got five persons injured.

In a statement, the spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency, North-East Zonal Office, Maiduguri, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, said, “Five members of the Civilian JTF were killed in a suicide bomb explosion in Madarari, outskirts of Konduga town in the Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State at a checkpoint before entering Konduga.

“Five people were injured in the incident which occurred when the suicide bomber detonated the concealed IED as he was being searched at a checkpoint,” he added.

Tuesday’s attack will go down as one of the worst for the Civilian JTF in Borno as they have always had an edge over the terrorist group.

Meanwhile, the military said on Tuesday that it was moving to push Boko Haram from it only remaining stronghold around the Lake Chad with the launch of Operation Last Hold.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, on Tuesday said the military was ready to uproot the insurgents from Borno so that the people who fled their homes could return.
