Bawo had a brother from another mother, who created the seventh state – Biram.

The creation of Hausa land is connected with emerging of capital cities as the centers of the economy, production, and trade. They were different from the previous settlements in the West regions of Africa, and every city had a king as recognizable power.

In the Hausa tribe history, the Hausa had extensive involvement in the trade with Islam. They exchanged goods with the Southern Nigerian tribes, like Yoruba and Igbo, the nomadic Tuareg and Kanuri on the East. There are also other ethnic groups that share cultural orientations with the Hausa, like the Nupe, the Adar, the Zabarama and the Wangara. Due to colonial interference into the history of Africa, the Hausa people were used as slaves and were forcedly taken to the other parts of the world.

The contacts with the Arab-speaking world did not go unnoticed in the development of the Hausa language. The Hausa language is also divided into dialects. There two main groups of dialects – Eastern and Northwestern. The “standard” Hausa language dialect is constructed on the dialect of Kano called the Koine. Kano is a grand Hausa trade and commerce center in Nigeria.
