You can check out both methods of beads making that include Abuja connection and choose the right one for you. Without further ado, here they are.
Old Abuja connection bead tutorial
Despite its name, this necklace design is still very trendy. So strap in and get ready to learn how to make beads necklace with Abuja connection (oldschool style).
For this necklace, you will need:
- 0.3 mm wide illusion cord;
- 2 different-sized beads;
- needles, scissors and other bead making paraphernalia.
You should choose the beads to your own liking. However, we recommend you to use seed beads and slightly bigger (rondelle) crystal beads. The length of the cord depends on the size of your future necklace (both in terms of length and the amount of layers), but it is best to have some to spare.
Now let’s make the necklace:
Step 1. Cut your cord and tie a needle to each side. If your cord is rigid enough, you can go without needles altogether. However, needles will make the whole thing easier.
Step 2. Place three larger beads in the middle of the cord. Add another bead with one needle and thread the other one through as well. You should end up with a small circle.
Step 3. On each side of the circle, add ten smaller beads.
Step 4. Add another large bead and thread both needles through.
Step 5. Add a large bead on each side, then add one more and thread both needles through. You can now see the main element of your necklace. Repeat steps two through five until you get the desired length for your necklace.
Step 6. When you have the length you want, it is time to add new layers. Place one large bead on the left and two on the right. Thread your right needle through the bead on the left.
Step 7. In order to start a second layer, repeat the previous step. Then, add six small beads to the left side and seven to the right.
Step 8. When you continue your pattern, use one less large bead. After each middle large bead, you should thread your needle through the middle large bead of the layer that came before.
Step 9. If you decide to add more layers, repeat steps 7 and 8, but add one more small bead to each side. For example, second layer uses seven small beads on the right and six on the left. The next one will have eight on the right and seven on the left and so on.
Step 10. At the very end, place eight small beads on one of the sides and thread the other needle through in the opposite direction. Thread both of the needles through the two large beads at the top. Finish your necklace by attaching the clasps. Ta-da! Your Abuja connection necklace is done.

When it comes to latest bead designs, the new Abuja connection bead necklace is the first one that comes to mind. It is gorgeous, stylish and relatively easy to make. And we will teach you how to make bead necklace with this design.
Here is what you need for it:
- 0.3 mm wide illusion cord;
- 2 different-sized beads;
- needles, scissors and other bead making tools.
Seems familiar? That is because the main difference between this style and the one we have talked about before is the size and the amount of the larger beads. While the previous one is usually made with four 6 mm crystal beads per element, this one calls for one 8 mm or larger.
In order to make this type of necklace, perform the following steps:
Step 1. Cut your cord and tie a needle to each side.
Step 2. Take five small beads, one large bead and five more small beads and place them in the middle of the thread. Take one more large bead and thread the other needle through. You will get a small circle.
Step 3. Take five small beads on each needle and thread the needles through a large bead. Repeat this until you get to the length you want.
Step 4. In order to start a second layer, turn the work and put one large, six small, one large beads on the right needle. Thread the needle through the second large bead of the first layer.
Step 5. Put six small beads on the left needle and thread it through the second large bead you added in the previous step.
Step 6. Put six small beads and a large one on the right needle and thread the needle through the third large bead of the first layer. Then put six small beads on the left needle and thread it through the new large bead. Repeat this until you get to the end, thread both of the needles through any beads and cut the cord.
Step 7. To start a new layer, cut a length of the cord and thread it through the first large bead in the second layer.
Step 8. Put one large bead, seven small beads and one large bead on the right needle and thread it through the second large bead of your second layer. Put seven small beads on the left needle and thread it through the second large bead that you added before.
Step 9. Put seven small beads and a large one on the right needle and thread it through the third large bead in the second layer. Put seven small beads on the left needle and thread it through the new large bead. Repeat until you are at the end.
Step 10. If you want to add more layers, you can cut more cord, increase the amount of small beads with each layer and start from the place where you started the previous layer. If you do not want to add anything else, thread the needle through three large beads on the end, add up to 18 small beads and thread both of the needles through all off the beads. Attach the clasps and you are done!
That is all for our bead making tutorial. Thank you for sticking around all the way to the end. Good luck in your crafting. We believe that you will be able to make the most gorgeous necklace ever!
