Nigerian army reacts as video of soldiers torturing IPOB members goes viral
– A video of some officers of the Nigerian army torturing members of the IPOB has gone viral
– In the video, the officers could be seen flogging the agitators and ordering them to sleep inside mud
– The army has however promised to investigate the video
The Nigerian army has reacted to a disturbing viral video of some of its officials torturing members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In the 3-minute video, the soldiers flogged some of the men before ordering all of them to sleep in the mud by a roadside.
While reacting to the video, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sanni Usman, said the army will take necessary steps to investigate the origin of the video.
Usman while speaking to journalists said: “We are aware of certain video being circulated.
“We have gotten complaints of the said video, and have commenced an investigation into the matter and the report would be made public.
“The General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Major General Adamu Abubakar, is investigating it and whatever it is, we will definitely let the public know about the outcome.”
Also, the Abia state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, the governor , alongside traditional rulers in the state, met with the General Officer Commanding (GOC) commanding the 82 Division of the Nigeria Army Enugu, Major General A.B. Abubakar, at Government House in Umuahia, the Abia state capital on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Ikpeazu and the Traditional rulers appealed to the GOC to reduce military presence in the state, particularly in Aba and umuahia, as tension in the areas have gone down
The governor noted that the Nigerian Police and other security agencies should ensure that those who are brought into Abia from other states, in order to cause trouble and engage in acts capable of causing breach of law and order, should be prevented from entering the state.

Meanwhile, as crisis continues between IPOB and the army in Abia state, Gover Ikpeazu has extended the curfew imposed on Aba, the state’s commercial nerve center, from Thursday to Friday, September 15, 2017, Punch reports.
The governor made the new development known in a statement released via his chief press secretary, Enyinnaya Appolos.
NAIJ.com gathers that Ikpeazu urged residents to work together with security agents to maintain law and order in Aba.
