A pressure group named the Ambode Mandate Support Group (AMSG) has been formed by prominent political office holders in the All Progressives Congress (APC), with the explicit am of ensuring the reelection of the Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode in 2019, Vanguard reports.
Among the founders of the group are federal and state legislators, council chairmen among others. They however explained that their action does not mean they are ruling out other aspirants who may want to run against the governor.
NAIJ.com gathers that the group highlighted Ambode’s success in employment, infrastructure, tourism and traffic management. However, they vowed to relay public concerns about the nightmarish traffic congestion on the Mile 2-Apapa axis of the metropolis to the governor.
The group was led by Hon Omoyele Sulaimon, a three time chairman of Bariga local government area and special adviser to the governor on communities and communications.
Sulaimon stated: “After seeing how he (Ambode) has piloted the affairs of the state, we were convinced that it would be necessary to garner support for him.
“We have seen his new approach to governance because even when the country is in recession, this governor has recognised that time is money and he ensured that useful time is not wasted in traffic and hence he ensured smooth traffic.”
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that hundreds and thousands of youths embarked on a symbolic march from Maryland to the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota to endorse Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for another term in office.
The youths were drawn from various groups including Lagos Youth Initiative (LYI), Lagos state Students Union, Liberal Minds Grassroots Forum, Lagos of Our Dream (Project LOUD), Asiwaju Redrive Youth Initiative National Association of Scrap, Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria (NASWEDEN), among others.
They said the decision to support the governor was as a result of his various infrastructural strides and massive empowerment initiatives such as the N25billion Employment Trust Fund.
