Tragedy as police stray bullet kills popcorn seller in Port Harcourt
An unidentified man was on Thursday, November 14, reportedly killed by a stray bullet alleged to have been shot by policemen at Emenike Junction, by St. Andrews State School, Diobu, Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
Vanguard said the deceased, who sold popcorn, lay in a pool of blood when its correspondent visited the scene.
“I had barely left the spot when the unfortunate incident happened about 3pm,” an eyewitness was quoted to have said.
It was not clear which police team fired the shot or which the direction it came from, Legit.ng gathers.
The state commissioner of police, Zaki Ahmed, and police public relations officer, Nnamdi Omoni, were yet to confirm or respond to the incident when contacted, Vanguard states.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that two suspected bombers were arrested by the security operatives of Imo police command when they were attempting to detonate bomb in Orlu community of the state.
The arrested suspects, a 28 year-old Friday Echereobia, and 30 year Ozioma Nwosu, were nabbed and paraded in Owerri on Wednesday, November 14, by the state commissioner of police, Dasuki Galadanchi.
The bomb-carrying suspects were reportedly busted during a routine search operation by the operatives of mobile police belonging to 18 squadron.
The commissioner of police, while parading the suspects, said: “The operatives of the police mobile force 18 squadron, during a routine stop and search duty at their checkpoint by the UBA junction in Orlu, arrested the suspects, who were on a motorcycle and in possession of a suspicious looking object.”
