Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson believes Harry Redknapp is tactically superior to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Merson played under Wenger at Arsenal and was also under Redknapp's guidance at Portsmouth in 2002-03.

He thinks Arsenal would have won more trophies under Wenger if he was as astute as Redknapp is.

'People say Redknapp's a wheeler-dealer and it's so disrespectful,' Merson said on Sky's A League Of Their Own.

'Tactically, he's one of the best I've worked with.

'If Arsene Wenger had Harry Redknapp's tactical nous, Arsenal would win the league.'

Redknapp was sacked as Birmingham manager after only 13 games in September.

Arsenal are fifth in the Premier League with 13 points from seven matches. They last won the Premier League under Wenger in 2004.

Redknapp's most notable piece of silverware in a long and respected career in English football is the 2008 FA Cup triumph with Portsmouth.
