Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has revealed he is attempting to grow a beard for the first time in his life, but admits he has had little say in the decision to change his look.

The Italian spoke at a pre-match press conference for the first time in two weeks following the international break and one reporter could not help but ask about the face fuzz that had appeared since their last meeting.

Having already answered tricky questions about his fractured relationship with star defender David Luiz, Conte was more than happy to indulge the off-topic question and revealed the inspiration behind the stubble.

With  tricky tie away to West Brom on Saturday, Conte also said he hopes his beard will bring added luck to his Chelsea side and promised to continue growing it so long as they kept winning.

Asked about his new look, Conte said: 'I don't know if my looks are good, but my wife suggested to me that I try for once and to try and stay with a beard.

'This is the first time. We can see tomorrow if it brings luck or not. But I repeat, I have tried to change my look but only because my wife decided.'

Asked if he will continue to grow it if Chelsea keep winning, Conte said: Yes. I hope at the end of the season to finish with a big beard.'

Answering a much more relevant question, Conte confirmed Luiz would return to his squad after being dropped for the game against Manchester United.

Sportsmail revealed Conte made the controversial call after a training ground bust-up with Luiz, although the former Italy and Juventus manager maintains it was a purely tactical decision.

He said: 'David Luiz is in the squad, yes. I repeat, it was a tactical decision and every single player has to react well (when dropped).

'I think I stay here to speak of the team before the game against West Brom, I like to speak about the team not one single player.'
