Watford have made further enquiries for Sunderland midfielder Didier Ndong as they push for a loan with a view to a permanent deal.

The 23-year-old Gabon international cost Sunderland a club-record £13million in August 2016 from French outfit Lorient.

The Championship club will listen to offers for him but had hoped for a permanent sale after rebuffing Watford's earlier enquiry this month of a loan with view to £8m transfer.

Watford were interested in Ndong before they sacked Marco Silva last week and new boss Javier Gracia is happy to make him his first signing.

They are expected to lodge a formal bid for the Gabon midfielder early next week with the transfer deadline fast approaching.

West Ham have also asked about Ndong's availability as David Moyes looks to add depth to his midfield options before the window shuts.
