West Bromwich Albion are lining up an £18million bid for Watford striker Troy Deeney.

The 29-year-old was left out of Watford's squad at Southampton on Saturday and is understood to have watched the Midlands League Division One game between Chelmsley Town and Atherstone Town as he still has a home nearby in the midlands.

Albion manager Alan Pardew, who saw Hal Robson Kanu pick up a hamstring injury at Liverpool on Saturday, is eager to boost his scoring options and has discussed three possible targets including Richmond Boakye from Red Star Belgrade.

Albion are short of funds but have interest from other clubs in Jonny Evans and Jake Livermore.

Watford had hoped to clear £25m for Deeney but are considering accepting a lower offer with the forward turning 30 in June while he also one of their highest wage earners on around £70,000 a week.

Deeney has also been linked with a move to St James' Park with Rafa Benitez desperate on bringing in a striker before the January transfer window closes.

Meanwhile, Egypt international Ali Gabr is undergoing a medical at Albion today ahead of his loan move from Zamalek.
