The January transfer window will close at 11pm on Wednesday evening, just an hour after seven Premier League matches conclude.

It will make for a frenetic dash to the finishing line as almost every Premier League club scrambles to complete deals in the next three days.

Here Sportsmail talks through the expected deals, the shocks in store and the scramble that lies ahead....

There is a crucial round of Premier League fixtures this week, with matches taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday evening. When must players be registered by in order to play in those games?

To play in the games on Tuesday evening, new signings must be registered by Monday at midday on January 29. This is relevant to Swansea v Arsenal, West Ham v Crystal Palace and Huddersfield v Everton. For the Wednesday night games, where the rest of the top-flight is in action, the deadline is midday on Tuesday.

Will these games will take away from any last minute business?

If they do, it is only the club's own fault. They have had the entire month to get deals done and several months to plan their moves.

As for the distraction of the game, most deals nowadays are done by sporting directors or board members, though some managers still become involved in persuading a player and they can't take their eye off the ball with such a crucial round of fixtures.

Where will we find the big deals?

Arsenal and Manchester City are the big movers and shakers. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang appears to be on the brink of a £55.4million move from Borussia Dortmund to Arsenal.

This may also free up Olivier Giroud to make a £30m move to Chelsea and then allow Dortmund to make their swoop for Michy Batshuayi, although Sevilla may be his preferred destination. Edin Dzeko remains on Chelsea's radar but the club continue to haggle with Roma over a joint deal that would also include wing-back Emerson Palmieri.

City's business is more straightforward. Pep Guardiola will seal a £57m transfer for Athletic Bilbao's defender Aymeric Laporte as City will pay the player's release clause. City may yet also sign midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk.

As City focus on Laporte, Arsenal can then move for West Brom defender Jonny Evans in a £26m deal. Burnley want Arsenal's Rob Holding on loan. As you can tell, many of this moves appear dependent on the former taking place!

How about across north London; can we expect any business from Tottenham?

Rumours persist around the Brazilian Malcolm at Bordeaux and his compatriot Lucas Moura at Paris Saint-Germain. Lucas also has interest from China, where Tottenham will struggle to match the wages on offer, but it is hoped he will put the football first and head to London in a £22m deal. The winger will, however, require a work permit and the clock is now against Tottenham.

Will Rafa Benitez be granted the crucial signings he wants to ensure Newcastle's Premier League safety?

Benitez is pleased to have Kenedy on loan from Chelsea but he wants a striker and goalkeeper. Nicolai Jorgensen is the £16m first-choice target from Feyenoord to fill the goalscoring breach.

If Newcastle fail to make those additions, it will pose major short and long-term questions over Benitez's future at Newcastle and relationship with Mike Ashley.

Could Jurgen Klopp be tempted to act and replace Philippe Coutinho?

Liverpool's struggles against Swansea and West Brom in the past week have placed their decision to sell Coutinho mid-season into sharper focus. Jurgen Klopp appears content to wait it out until the end of the season but will their top four chances survive without reinforcements? Could Liverpool be persuaded back into the market to pounce for a Riyad Mahrez from Leicester or Thomas Lemar from Monaco?

And will Southampton spend the Virgil van Dijk cash to boost their Premier League survival chances?

Mauricio Pellegrino needs more firepower. He has signed Guido Carrillo from Monaco and the club are prepared to spend more than £25m to sign Spartak Moscow winger Quincy Promes. The Russian club are holding out for a £30m fee.

Will the new Watford manager Javi Gracia be handed some recruits?

He is certainly hoping so. Gracia has his eye on Barcelona wideman Gerard Deulofeu, with striker Troy Deeney a £16m option for Alan Pardew at West Brom.

Can we expect any late raids on the Championship?

Premier League scouts like the look of Fulham pair Tom Cairney and Ryan Sessegnon but manager Slavisa Jokanovic is desperate to retain the duo. The pair could be worth a combined £60m in the summer. Cairney is a talented ball-playing midfielder and Sessegnon is a flying full-back who has been compared to a young Gareth Bale.
