West Brom appear to have won the race to sign Daniel Sturridge on loan for the rest of the season.

The Liverpool striker has been heavily linked with a temporary switch to Newcastle United.

But he is now set to head to the Midlands in a move which will come as a huge blow for Rafa Benitez.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Huddersfield Town on Tuesday, Jurgen Klopp was tight-lipped on the future of the England international.

‘We will see what happens here,’ he said. ‘It makes no sense to talk about it. You write about it anyway.’

The England international is anxious to leave Anfield before Wednesday's deadline and has been the subject of interest from Sevilla and Inter Milan.

Sevilla had an offer to pay all of Sturridge's £130,000-per-week wages until the end of the season rejected, while Inter Milan had been prepared to pay a £2million loan fee to take him to Serie A but are now pursuing Javier Pastore of Paris Saint-Germain.

Sturridge has not played for Liverpool since coming on as substitute in the 7-0 routing of Spartak Moscow on December 6, with a series of niggling injuries and the form of Roberto Firmino leaving him on the periphery.

He realises at this moment in time he will not be going to the World Cup if his position remains the same and wants to kick-start his career after what has been a hugely frustrating season.
