Stoke City are to close to ending their long search for an energetic midfielder by signing Senegal international Badou Ndiaye from Galatasaray.

A fee of around £14million has been agreed between the two clubs and the 27-year-old should be able to complete the move once work permit issues have been sorted out. He is scheduled to be in Stoke on Tuesday morning.

Ndiaye will become Stoke’s third signing of the window following the arrival of defenders Moritz Bauer and Kostas Stafylidis.

Inter Milan and Newcastle were also interested but the player felt being to international team-mates Biram Mame Diouf, Sadio Mane and Idrissa Gueye would help him settle quickly.

Even before new manager Paul Lambert was appointed three weeks ago, the club identified they needed more legs in midfield as a priority in their bid stay in the Premier League, following the failure of Giannelli Imbula to settle in the Premier League.

Ndiaye has been capped eight times by Senegal, having played club football in Norway and Turkey and was signed by Galatasaray from Osmanlispor in 2017.
